Leftwich released, expected to re-sign next week

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released QB Byron Leftwich. A smart managerial move, as the Steelers use Leftwich’s roster spot to add DE Steve McLendon from the practice squad to replace injured NT Casey Hampton. Leftwich was not expected to be active this week, so the Steelers are playing the numbers game here. Expect the team [...]

Leftwich returns to practice

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (knee) returned to a full practice on Friday. Leftwich may not be active on Sunday, but could go right back into the starting lineup next week if Dennis Dixon struggles against Tennessee. Pittsburgh Steelers LT Max Starks may not miss any games after it was revealed his ankle injury is not a high ankle sprain as previously reported. Arians confirms Mendenhall will remain goal-line back

Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians stated on Thursday that Rashard Mendenhall will not be substituted out of goal-line packages. Arians contradicts statements made by Coach Mike Tomlin a few days ago that Isaac Redman will be the primary goal-line/short-yardage back. We expect Mendenhall to get a good amount of goal-line work this season, with [...]

Redman to steal goal-line carries from Mendenhall

Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin has announced RB Isaac Redman will be his primary goal-line and short-yardage back. Terrible news for Rashard Mendenhall owners. Goal-line backs have a tendency to change as the year goes on, so it’s completely reasonable to expect Mendenhall to regain the job at some point. Still, they don’t call him [...]

Dennis Dixon to start for Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin announced that QB Dennis Dixon will start Week 1 against Atlanta. Dixon gets the nod over Charlie Batch, who apparently was considered for the starting job. Dixon offers far more playmaking ability, however, and gives the Steelers their best chance to win until either Byron Leftwich or Ben Roethlisberger returns.
